Senior year.
Three girls. Three guys.
Secrets and lies.
Demons of past and present.
Old insecurities and new fears.
One more year left to pretend.
One more year to wreck it all.
The countdown begins.

All Jeanette Sanders wanted to do was escape her past and forget everything that has happened. Coming to Greyford was supposed to be her new beginning, a clean slate. As her old insecurities start to return in full force and lies grow bigger than ever, the only thing left is the hope that her broken heart will survive this time around.

Andrew Hill has been betrayed one too many times in the past. Cynical and cold-hearted, he closed off his heart for good and doesn’t plan on letting anybody in ever again. Especially women. But his heart doesn’t seem to care and starts beating faster every time a particular black-haired beauty gets in his way and puts him in his place.

He wants her body, not her heart. She tries to resist him, but the pull is too much.

They know they’re all wrong for each other, but some habits are too sweet to give up.

Release Blitz & Book Review: Advice from a Jilted Bride by Piper Rayne

Advice from a Jilted Bride
by Piper Rayne
Series:
The Baileys #2
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: March 21st, 2019

Blurb:

What’s a girl to do after being ditched at the altar by text message? That’s right. Text. Message.

How does she pick up the pieces and move on? I’m no Dear Abby but here’s a little free advice…

Advice #1 – First, purge your apartment of all things him—by tossing his belongings off the balcony.

Advice #2 – Do not, I repeat do not, throw anything out into the hallway because you’ll injure your hot new neighbor.

Advice #3 – When said neighbor brings over Chinese Food do not let him stay and keep you company. It’s awkward when you realize he’s your boss.

Advice #4 – Accept his offer to help you with your side business but think twice before using a date to his sister’s wedding as collateral.

Advice #5 – Investigate who your mystery neighbor really is. Don’t trust his word even if he’s the world’s best kisser.

If you listen to nothing else, pay attention to that last one. It’s the most important and will save you a lot of heartache.

My review:

I love the Baileys more and more with each book. They have each other’s backs but still give each other shit like any siblings would do. Their dynamic is just amazing and I wish I was part of the Bailey clan. Maybe I’ll snatch myself one of the Bailey men while they’re still single. =P

I know I can count on Piper Rayne to deliver a great story and to pull me out of a book funk anytime. Their characters have so much life in them and never fail to amaze me with their strong and kind personalities.

The worst thing to ever happen to a Bride happened to Brooklyn. She got ditched at the altar by her fiancé via text message. (Well, it did get worse for her but I don’t get into that because you have to read it yourself.)
Anyway, throwing books to let off steam doesn’t sound too bad right?! But hitting your new neighbor in the head with one wasn’t a good start of an introduction.
Needless to say, Wyatt and Brooklyn met on a very bad day for her and luck was still not on her side when they found out he was her new boss as well.
But no matter the circumstances they were attracted to each other, and living next to each other didn’t make it easier to ignore the chemistry between them.
‘Brooklyn Bailey doesn’t look like trouble with her innocent demeanor and beautiful smile, but my gut is telling me that’s exactly what she’ll be for me.’
This story went from one mess into the next and I felt so bad for Brooklyn. Luckily, Wyatt came into the picture and although he had his own kind of family drama to deal with, trying to prove his worth to his father and that he was capable of running the family hotel chain, he fit in with the Baileys as if he was one of them already.

I really enjoyed this wonderful story and couldn’t put it down. I was also glad that things weren’t rushed between Brooklyn and Wyatt but still loved how they had sort of an instant connection.
There was a lot going on and many obstacles for them to overcome. One of them was her broken heart of course after having been ditched, but also him being her boss and his temporary residence in Lake Starlight. The story had such an easy flow and was captivating from the first page. This is again a book you don’t want to miss out on!!
‘You have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your prince.’
I absolutely loved the banter between the Bailey siblings and all the funny moments. I was a bit overwhelmed with all the names at first but now I can count them all off on my hands and am so excited to read more about them because with each book I fall deeper in love with this family. And I can hardly await the next release after the surprise of this epilogue!!

Greyson East left his mark on me.
As the young girl who first fell for him, I didn’t know much about life. I did know about his smiles, though, and his laughs, and the strange way my stomach flipped when he was near.

Life was perfect…until it wasn’t, and when we were forced to go our separate ways, I held on to our memories, let go of my first crush, and wished for the day I’d find him again.

When my wish came true, it was nothing like I imagined.

I couldn’t have known when I took the nanny position that it would be his children I looked after, that my new boss would be that boy I used to know, that boy who was now a man—a cold, lonely, detached man.

The smile and laugh I had loved so much were gone, now distant memories. Every part of him was covered in a fresh pain.

When he realized who I was, he made me promise to do my job and my job only.
He made me promise not to try to get to know him, not to recall the memories I’d treasured all this time.

But, sometimes, I saw the boy I’d once known in his stormy eyes. I saw the Greyson who smiled and laughed, who had stolen a young girl’s heart, and there was no doubt in my mind that this boy was worth fighting for.

I was given a second chance with the one who’d left his mark on me. All I hoped was that somehow I’d leave a mark on his soul, too.

Excerpt:

DAX
* * *
“Where’s my favorite girl?” I call out, entering my childhood home.
“I’m here, Uncle Dax!” my niece, Violet, hollers through the house just before her quick footsteps follow.
My parents refused to let me buy them a new house once I started putting money in the bank. Mom didn’t want the neighbors to think she and Dad thought they were better than anyone else. This means my parents, my sister, and niece, all still live in the fifteen-hundred-square-feet home I grew up in.
I did pay off their mortgage as well as my sister’s student loans before I set up a college fund for my niece, much to their dismay. But let’s be honest, it’s the least I could do for a family who’s always been there for me.
Dad refused to retire from the hardware store, but I at least got him to agree to go from full-time to part-time a few years ago. It took some aggressive bargaining, but when I’d shown him how well the account I’d started for them with my financial planner had been doing, he’d finally relented.
“Hey! I thought I was your favorite girl!” another female voice protests.
“Well, I don’t know,” I hedge. “Depends on if you made any chocolate chip cookies.”
My mother promptly swats at me with a laugh, the little crinkles at the corners of her eyes becoming more pronounced. The guys always say I resemble my mom, and even though I know they say it in more of a shit talking, you look like your mama kind of way, it’s still true. She and I have the same smile, and although her skin is darker than mine—my dad’s the odd man out in the family with fair white skin—there’s no mistaking me for being her son.
I pull her close for a hug, and she pats my back, mumbling, “I swear, you just keep getting more muscles every time I see you.” The top of her head barely reaches my shoulder, and her dark hair seems like it has more gray threaded in it each time I see her.
“Don’t give him a bigger head than he already has.”
My eyes catch sight of Violet and my sister, Ava, entering the small kitchen. Mom releases me, and Violet rushes past her mother intent on getting to me first. I bend and scoop her up in a big hug.
“Uncle Dax, I missed you.” Her whispered words wrap themselves around me.
“I missed you, too, love bug.” God, I swear, she’s growing like a damn weed lately. Once I set her on her feet, she starts talking a mile a minute.
“Oh my gosh, Uncle Dax! You’re not going to believe what happened the other day in gymnastics camp. That girl I told you about—the one who was saying my hair was weird and stuff—well, I finally had enough, and I did what you told me to do.”
All eyes are suddenly on me. Trust me when I say this is not what a man wants in this household because it normally means I’m in deep shit.
“Uh, remind me again what I told you?” I say slowly, praying to God above that I hadn’t made some idiotic, off-the-cuff comment as a joke, and she took me seriously.
Violet gives me one of those old people are so forgetful looks. “You said I could use sarcasm because most people who are mean and rude don’t understand it, and it’ll go over their head and be a beautiful inside joke for you and everyone else who doesn’t have shit for brains.”
Violet,” my mother and Ava say in unison, flashing me a stern look.
Violet grimaces. “Sorry. But I was quoting him.” Then she picks right up. “And then you said I should let it roll off my shoulders like it doesn’t bother me.” She grins happily. “Well, I did a combination of the two. And she’s totally left me alone ever since.” My niece pumps a fist in the air. “Go Team Kendrick!”
“Way to go!” We exchange a high five. Sobering, I school my face in a stern expression. “Remember not to cuss, though. It’s not ladylike.”
Her sweet face peers up at me, so adorably cute with such seriousness that it takes all my effort to not break into a smile. “How about ‘crap’?”
“Uh…” I flick my eyes to Ava, who makes a face before shrugging. “I think that one can be okay, as long as it’s not overused.”
Violet nods. “Noted.” God, this kid is such an old soul sometimes. “I’m going to practice my backflips for gymnastics some more out back.” In a flash, she’s gone.
I sag against the counter. “Man, two minutes, and I’m exhausted.”
My sister sidles up beside me and snickers. “As if Mr. Gatorade himself ever gets exhausted.”
I toss her a sharp look. “Seriously? One advertising campaign for a sports drink, and you’re giving me sh—”
“Ahem!” our mother clears her throat pointedly.
“Crap.” Mom nods in approval, and I continue. “About it?” I place a palm flat against the center of my chest, feigning sadness. “Where’s the love?”
She shoves at me playfully. “You get enough love from all your admirers.”
Mom huffs. “You need to settle down with a nice woman.”
“Speaking of a nice woman…” I press my lips thin, trying to figure out how to best tell them I decided to use a matchmaking service, but decide to throw caution to the wind. “I hired a professional,” I blurt out.
As if in slow motion, my mother turns around slowly from where she’s stirring something on the stove. My sister’s jaw goes slack. And they both gape at me.
Just the reaction a guy wants.
My mother’s expression is horrified. Not quite what I was expecting, but then again, she’s always been a spitfire.
“Dax Allen Kendrick! I forbid it!”
I rear back, confused as hell. “Why would you forbid it?”
Her jaw drops, and she gasps indignantly. “Why would I forbid it?!” She turns to my sister, her voice increasing in volume. “Why would I forbid it?!”
“Say it again, Mom. Not sure we heard you the first time,” my sister deadpans.
If my mother didn’t have a freaking wooden spoon in her hand, I’d let out the laugh aching to break free. I got to know that sucker really well through my early years, and even though I’m older, I don’t put it past my mother to come at me with that thing.
Speaking of which, my right ass cheek starts to throb in remembrance at the mere sight of that spoon.
I hold up my hands. “Calm down, Mom.” Shit. I didn’t expect this reaction. “Look, she’s great at what she does and—”
The hand holding the wooden spoon rises another inch, and I flinch in response. “Don’t you tell me what she’s great at, young man!”
I look at my sister, silently pleading for help. She merely shrugs, wide-eyed, with an I don’t pretend to understand her look.
Great. I’m left to fend for myself once again.
“Can you just put that thing”—I gesture to the spoon in her hand—“down, so I can explain?”
My mother’s lips purse like she’s just bit into the sourest of lemons. Her eyes practically spew fire at me. “Fine.” Her tone is curt. “But you’re not too old to get swatted with it, young man,” she warns with a pointed look.
My hands fly to my ass protectively, and my sister snorts. I glare at her, and she simply sticks her tongue out at me in response.
Some things never change.
“Okay, so Ivy, Becket’s wife—”
My mother’s expression instantly softens. “Such a sweet girl, that one.” Then with a stern look, she adds, “You need to find someone like that.”
I draw in a deep breath, praying for patience. “Ivy’s business partner, Darcy, runs a matchmaking service and—” At the odd expression on my mother’s face, I stop. “What’s that look for?”
“Oh, honey.” She lets out a long sigh before spinning around to tend to the saucepan on the stove.
I stare at my sister expectantly. Her lips twitch as though she’s attempting to restrain a smile. I wave her on. “Say it.”
She snickers. “Mom thought when you said ‘professional,’ you meant prostitute.”
I whip around to stare at my mother. “Are you serious?!” What the hell? “You really think I’d hire a freaking prostitute?”
“Apparently so,” my sister chimes in with a smirk.
I toss up my hands in exasperation. “I can’t believe you think I’d resort to that.”
“Well,” my sister starts, “you have been single for a while.”
“That doesn’t mean I’d hire a prostitute for fu—” Mom’s head whips around in warning, and I correct myself quickly. “For God’s sake.”
“What’s a prostitute?”
Fucking hell. Violet’s just come back inside.
“Nothing.” That’s my mother’s response.
“A person who makes bad choices.” My sister’s no-nonsense response.
“A woman who sells—” This time, I really do get swatted with the wooden spoon. As if it doesn’t sting enough against my bare forearm, I now have a line of pasta sauce on it too.
I grin and make a show of licking the sauce off my skin. Mom hates that.
She raises the spoon threateningly, and I hold up my hands in surrender. “I just want to be loved. What’s a guy have to do to get some love these days?”
“Pretty sure you already know what you have to do to get some love,” my sister mutters under her breath.
I jab an index finger in her direction and give her a sharp look. “Watch it, or I’ll tell Mom who broke that angel statue she brought home from a garage sale.”
Ava’s expression morphs into astonishment. “You swore you’d never bring that up!” Her lips curve suddenly in a devious smile. “As long as I never tell Mom what happened to that pair of booty shorts she got you for twenty-five cents.”
“What shorts?” my mother asks.
I stare at her in complete disbelief. “Seriously? You’re more worried about the hideous shorts that put my junk on display than the statue she broke?”
My mother sputters. “But you said you loved those shorts!”
I glance up at the ceiling, hoping for divine intervention, which, of course, never comes. “Mom,” I say with exaggerated patience. “The shorts were cut so high I would’ve had to wax.”
“Well, you could’ve said so,” she huffs, turning back to the stove. “They were a great deal.”
“I’m sure they were a steal for a quarter.” My sister snickers at my sarcastic response, and we burst out laughing.
Our mom’s been a fan of garage sales for as far back as we can remember. Sometimes she brings home some decent stuff, but more often than not, it ends up being some hideous “treasure.”
Hence the shorts.
“You two are gonna get it!” Mom warns, raising that infamous wooden spoon once more.
Man, it’s good to be home.

My review:

If you’re looking for a fantastically written book, a beautiful and heartfelt love story that will make you fall in love with its characters, then this is the book you need to read!
And as a bonus, I believe this book had the hottest sex scenes I’ve read from this author so far. (And I’ve read almost all of her books)

You know the feeling that slowly starts to grow inside you after having spent too much time in the cold and then warming up in front of the fireplace?! When the warm seeps into your bones again and slowly spreads across your skin, the tingling sensation when the cold leaves your body and it gives you such a good feeling?! When your heart warms up and it feels like its growing in size?! That’s how I experienced this sweet love story between these two amazing and humble characters.
‘Sometimes we look too hard for something, and we realize it’s right in front of us.’
This was a slow burn romance but the pace of the story was still very good. It was great to get to know the individual characters better before they got involved with each other (which I find is often missing in insta-love stories).

I adored Dax and Darcy like no other. They were both so different but understood one another on such a deep level due to their pasts and experiences. They were so comfortable with one another as if they'd been friends for years. And no matter their fears and worries they were such strong and amazing characters who had accomplished so much in their lives and most importantly were role models and encouraging to others in many regards.
‘It’s the little things.’
Darcy was hired to find Dex his perfect match and got to know him better in the process. They slowly developed a friendship and gained so much more than either of them expected to find in each other.
Although both were ready for a serious relationship, it was easier said than done to find the right partner with busy jobs and lives like theirs. But what if they had been looking in the wrong place so far?! Or maybe weren’t brave enough to deviate from their usual dating type?!
Can there be love where people are not only different but opposites in so many ways? Can love conquer anything? Even strong walls that were built to protect oneself from getting hurt?! Maybe it’s the person itself that has to overcome the fear to let love in so it can unfold its magic. And magic it was indeed between these characters.
‘I’m just a girl, standing in front of a salad, asking it to be three tacos and a margarita.’
Dex was such a sweetheart. He was so much more than only his good looks and what meets the eye. Dex was thoughtful, caring, selfless, humble and so kind. I loved how protective he was and how he adored Darcy. I also loved that he noticed things that weren’t so obvious to others but he saw the tiny details that made the difference. Maybe you’ve noticed by now how hard I fell for this guy. What can I say, he’s one of the best.
‘He holds me as though he’s attempting to collect all the fractured pieces of my heart and soul – the ones adhered together in a mishmash, unstable way – and affix them in place properly. To put my cracked parts back into their respective places and make me whole again.’
I didn’t expect this book to have me tearing up, but it did. This story was more than just two people falling in love but since I don’t want to spoil you this book, I won’t say anything else. But I was touched deeply by parts of this story that reached deep inside my heart. I felt with the characters, whether they loved or hurt.
Though there were a couple of characters (gotta love hilarious Tank and sweet Kyler!!) that cheered me up throughout this entire story and I can hardly await the next book(s) to read more about all of them. At least I hope there will be a lot more because they all need their own stories. =P

Excerpt:

Diego rubbed his jaw, plotting his route through the costume party to get to me. He’d be blamed if we were caught together. That didn’t stop my craving to feel his lips on mine. He started toward me, but after only a few steps, my father appeared, slapped him on the back, and pulled him away to introduce him to a couple.
I moved through the crowd, catching and losing Diego’s gaze as people passed between us. He shook the hand of an Elvis impersonator as I ducked by a man in a toga. He kissed Catwoman’s cheek but winked at me. I touched my neck in mock-offense and stopped short of face-planting into a wall of a security guard.
“Perdón,” I said as I went to go around the man.
The guard moved to block me, and in an instant, the energy around me shifted. I tilted my head back until I was looking straight up at a monster of a man and into the face of a ghoulish black-and-white skull. The blackened eye sockets, rimmed in deep red, didn’t hide the menacing way his eyes focused on me. Nor did the drawn-on teeth, shaped in a sinister grin, disguise his frown—or the flawless bone structure beneath his veneer. Raven-black hair had been slicked back, as stark against the chalky face paint as his tie cutting down the center of a pressed white dress shirt.
Standing as still and straight-backed as a mannequin, and looking as polished as one too, he inclined his head toward me. “May I have this dance?”

Book Review: Web of Lies by Tracie Delaney

You need Nate in your life, trust me!

Who would have thought?! I had absolutely no expectations for this book because although I liked the previous ones, Cash and Rupe were still my favorites from this author. But Nate just blew me away. There’s no wonder why readers all over the world try to claim him, but please give me at least a little piece of him too! *pretty please*

I absolutely loved this amazing book, not only for the romance but most of all for Nate's touching story. Oh my heart!
To be honest, I can't say that I liked Nate’s arrogance very much in the beginning, but like with all the other women he had me wrapped around his finger in no time. And when I read about his secret and the burden he carried with him, my heart ached for him so badly.

This book was definitely the best and my favorite in this series. There's so much to love in this book with Nate's big heart, Dex's feistiness, the banter between these two, the hot sex scenes!, the hilarious moments that cracked me up so hard, and last but not least the entire lovely Brook family.

Nate was cocky, arrogant, and used to getting his way not only with women. What I loved most about him was how deeply he cared for his brothers, even though he would probably deny it. I loved his honesty and how straightforward he was. Nate had a different and much warmer side, which he sadly closed off altogether for a specific reason. This secret though was slowly dragging him down and destroying him. At some point during this story, I had an idea on what this secret could be, but it still got to me and had my heart aching so much when it was finally revealed. My heart broke so badly for him, it had me in tears.

Dex was one hell of a woman, a feisty little lady, a real spitfire. She may have been small in size but she didn’t let people step on her and made up for her size with her character and no-bullshit-attitude. When she got fired because of Nate you can imagine how she exploded. Lucky for her, he was hell bent on getting her job back and so intrigued by how she didn’t bend to his will and cower in front of him, that he had a hard time getting her out of his head.

Hottie hot in the parking lot. Haha! I loved the sexual tension between the characters and how even a kiss was such a huge turn on. But I loved even more that there was so much more between them than only sexual attraction.

I warmed up pretty quickly to Nate and I loved the banter between him and Dex. They gave it to each other good and I preferred this to her being all sappy from the first sight. Well, she was obviously weak in the knees around him but she still stood her ground and didn’t let him do whatever he wanted. She was a fierce lady and he had his work cut out for him. I loved that she didn’t back down from any situation and didn’t give in when they exploded on one another because it made their bond afterwards even stronger.

I think my most favorite part was their time in New York. I loved to see the family together no matter the heaviness that surrounded Nate.
With the last brother’s book being done now, it’s sad to say goodbye to the characters but hopefully we’ll see them again at some point. =P

 My review:

I was at war with this book because ever since I met Nate, I couldn't figure out if I liked or hated him. But I was so very curious for his story because I was sure that it would be a promising one.

Well, turns out my hopes were set too high because although Nate was intriguing in Madison's books no matter his douchiness, he was part of the reasons that ruined this book for me. I mean, there are assholes and there are assholes, he was the biggest of them all. He was so over the top cruel, disrespectful, crass and so very rude, I hated him more than I liked his character. His cruelness knew no boundaries and his hate no limit. He despised Tillie so much and he was just too hostile for my kind of man. If you dig such animosity between characters, you will probably like this book more than me.

What bothered me most was that I didn't see that he even cared for her a little bit. At times he wanted her close and I just never understood his mood changes. Talk about contradictory character. If he at least apologized to her or made up for how awful he was, but no, his behavior towards her was just mean and she always forgot what he did to her seconds later and still loved him. That's fucked up love and not what I was hoping for.

What killed the book for me was the constant and rather ridiculously annoying back and forth between Tillie and Nate for the majority of the story. I wanted to know how the story continued that started in Madison's books but there wasn't much of the mystery left that was going on in hers. So, I missed having more to the story than just the constant hostility between the characters, or rather his hostility towards her. I also never liked those idiotic games the Kings played, and that wasn't any different here because they just made no sense to me.

And please someone tell me how Tillie could still love and want him after all that he'd said and done to her!? Alone his bossing her around and cussing her out had my blood boiling. I would have sent him straight to hell had I been her. She seemed like a strong character but she obviously had no control when it came to him, because he played her like a puppet.

Since this wasn’t my first book by this author I knew she wrote twisted stories but I just didn’t see any purpose of this story or what was even going on until almost halfway at the end of it. Maybe I just missed the point of it all that leaded up to it.

Anyway, I think the real story picked up around 75% and that's when it got interesting. The cliffhanger ending has me impatiently awaiting the next book although I really hope that the story doesn't lose its pace from the last few chapters of this book. I couldn't handle going through the same motions again as with this one.
