Crushing on the Cop
by Piper Rayne
Series:
Blue Collar Brothers #2
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Release Date: October 25th, 2018

Blurb:

Cristian Bianco has two things against him—he’s a police officer and he’s a police officer in the 18th District…meaning my dad is his boss.

Growing up as the Commander’s daughter and having his magnifying glass focused on everything I did was more than I could handle.

Now, I’m out on my own, living by my own rules. Well, mostly. The ‘job’ I created for myself has me in some hot water and my exit strategy isn’t exactly working out how I’d hoped.

Which is why when my best friend bids on Cristian for me at a charity bachelor auction, I’m not having it. A man in blue is only going to be one thing for me—a problem.

Except after his brother starts dating my best friend he becomes harder to ignore. The eight-pack abs. The sense of style only a girl like me can appreciate. The way he puts his family first. It all adds up to make him one irresistible prospect and has me wondering if he knows how to use those handcuffs the right way—by locking my wrists to his headboard.

Excerpt:

“Not on duty tonight, officer?” I insert sarcasm into my tone because being a bitch will make it easier for him to keep his distance.
“Well, Miss Flanagan, I’m off for two days if you’re wondering.”
I step away from the keg allowing the lingering guys who are talking about hockey a chance to fill their cups.
“That leaves me open for that date.” He cocks an eyebrow.
My head falls back in defeat. “There is no date. You have a pass. Most guys would love the chance to get out of a date with the person who wins them at an auction.”
He sips his beer. “I’m not most guys.”
I sip my beer and don’t respond. He’s right. He’s not most guys. Most guys don’t look like he does. That or I’ve been hanging around the wrong places.
“Some might say that most women would love to go on a date with a police officer.”
“I’m not most women.”
He laughs. One that heats my insides and makes him even more attractive. I know I’m going to be visualizing him the next time I pull out my Unicorn Cock vibrator, but I’ll deal like I always do.
“I agree,” he says when he finishes laughing.
“Perfect. Then it’s a deal. No date.” I smile and turn on my heel heading toward the bonfire.
“Whoa.” His hand gently grabs my arm.
I spin back around.
“You know that’s not what I was saying. Come on, Vanessa. I need your dad off my back. One date. It’s not going to kill anyone.”
I purse my lips, trying to figure out how I’m going to get him to let this topic go. I’ve had one police officer dictating my entire life already, I don’t need another.
“Just lie,” I say with a shrug.
His strong shoulders sag a bit and he shoots me a look like ‘give me a break.’ His eyes are those of an innocent man who probably always does the right thing. I’m doing him a favor keeping him at arm’s length.
“Fine,” I say when the silence stretches out.
He smiles.
I hold a finger up into the air. “You do one thing tonight that you’d never normally do and I’ll go out with you.” I smirk. Let’s see Mr. Squeaky Clean take me up on that offer. I’m picturing my victory already.
“What?” He screws his face up then sips his beer.
I cross my arms around my middle, waiting for him to say no way so that I can move on. “You heard me. One spontaneous thing. Here. Tonight.”
“Like what?” he asks, his eyes scanning the area around us that I now realize is quickly emptying out. Half these people probably have babysitters to get home to.
I shrug. “That’s for you to decide.”
His forehead bunches. “What do you want me to do? Jump over the fire or some shit like that?”
“I’d prefer if you didn’t end up in the emergency room, so no, I don’t expect you to jump over a roaring fire. That would ruin Maddie and Mauro’s night.”
A pissed off look crosses his face and he downs most of his beer.
“That’s it, let’s go, Cris. It’s two against two and I need a guy.” Luca, Cristian’s little brother, twirls a soccer ball on his finger as he steps up to us. Lauren follows behind with a girl I don’t recognize.
“What?” Cristian glares over at his brother. “I’m not playing soccer tonight in the pitch dark.”
He has a point.
“Come on Cris. Lauren says she can score five goals on me.” Luca glances over to Lauren who has a shit-eating grin on her face, and he rolls his eyes.
Cristian blows out a breath. Lauren saddles up to my side, kicking the soccer ball from Luca’s hands. She does some fancy footwork then kicks the ball in the air before catching it. That girl has coordination I do not.
“The answer is no. Find Bentley, he’s over there.” He points toward the bonfire.
Luca must know his brother never does something he doesn’t want to do because he barrels away from us without a word.
“What’s going on over here?” Lauren asks, walking backward, twirling the soccer ball on one finger like Luca was moments ago.
“Nothing,” I say.
“Lauren, what’s the craziest thing I can do tonight?” Cristian hollers out and Lauren’s feet stop, staring at me over his shoulder.
She knows this game. We play it often. Well, not since college when guys tend to think they can say hello and you’ll be falling all over them. There’s nothing wrong with making them work to impress you a little. It builds character. LOL.
Lauren being Lauren pretends to think about it. In the past, we’ve had guys shave their heads or their eyebrows, dress in girl’s clothing, striptease with a pair of girl’s panties on. God knows what Lauren’s going to recommend.
“You’re a smart boy, Bianco. Turn the tables,” she says. “What’s the worst thing you could do to Vanessa tonight?”
I flip her off. Nice friend I got there. Who wants her?
A devilish smile creeps onto Cristian’s lips. “Anyone tell you, you’re a fucking genius, Lauren?”
She laughs. “All the time. Tell your brother for me though.”
Luca comes over, stealing the soccer ball from her hands, while a guy tripping over his own feet follows behind. The girl and guy standing on the sidelines watching Lauren and Luca argue about who goes first.
“So, Officer Bianco, what will it be?” I cock a hip and a brow.
“Maybe a date with you isn’t worth the embarrassment?” He steps closer and I back up an inch, unease setting in as his demeanor grows more confident and sure.
I shrug. “That’s fine. I’m happy to split ways now.”
He takes another giant step forward and sips the remaining beer from his cup, tossing it down to the grass, his gaze intense and set on whatever he’s about to do.
“What are you doing?” I ask, my voice weaker than I’d prefer.
We’re chest to chest now because he’s taken me by surprise and I forgot to flee with his approach. Okay and maybe his eyes mesmerized me. A little. Not much.
“I’m going to do the one thing I didn’t think I’d do tonight.” His voice has dropped an octave and we’re alone in the darkness of the forest now where the warmth of the bonfire has disappeared. A cold chill runs across my cheeks until Cristian’s hands land on either side of my face. “I’m going to kiss you.”
His lips fall to mine. Did I say it was cold? It’s not. It’s warm. Cristian’s mouth on mine steals the chill from my body. I should knee him in the balls or at least push him away, but I don’t. Instead, my lips betray me and move in time with his. I wrap my arms around his neck and I rise to my tiptoes, kissing him back.
His arms cradle me flush against his body, his tongue exploring mine and under the canopy of the forest, away from any prying eyes, Cristian Bianco sets my body on fire.
I love breaking other people’s rules, but I’m not sure about breaking my own.

My review:

Move aside all you other book boyfriends because here are the Bianco Brothers! =P This story set off a thousand butterflies in my belly and had me wanting more.

Oh my! *fanning myself* Cristian set the bar even higher than Mauro and he was already off the charts. Those three brothers will be the death of me and ruin me for any other book boyfriends. This series is already one of my favorite rom-coms and absolutely the best from this author-duo. It will be hard to top that.

Let me tell ya, I was crushing on Cristian so hard. Who knew a guy in compression pants could be this hot?! I would have loved to be on the sidelines of the Spartan Race to cheer him on. =P

The Story:
Cristian wants his Commander to get off his back about when he’s going to take his daughter out for a date, so he sets out to finally get a yes from her. Though Vanessa is a tough nut to crack because she already has a police officer dictating her life, she obviously doesn’t need a boyfriend doing the same. She really didn’t plan on dating Cristian Bianco but she also didn’t expect him to be so irresistible, and the more she learns from him makes it even harder to resist.
'Fuck Mr. Responsibility, for once in my life I'm taking what I want without thinking of the damn consequences.'
Thoughts:
This book was hilarious! I'm really hard to please when it comes to comedy but I haven't laughed this much in a long time. Although it's not only just this book but this series that really has my heart because although you could surely enjoy this book without having read the first one, you would really miss out on a whole lot! I can't even express all my love I have for this Italian family and series altogether!
'”Most guys would love to the chance to get out of a date with the person who wins them at an auction.” “I'm not most guys.”'
Seriously, those Bianco Brothers ruin me not only for all the other book boyfriends but also for all real men out there too. Man, they set the expectations so high it's impossible for a human to reach it. If I could choose one fictional world to live in, it would definitely be in this series with this affectionate Italian family.

Okay, let’s talk about this story. First off, Vanessa really was a tough nut to crack for Cristian. She ran hot and cold but Cristian was a fighter and didn't give up to get his girl in the end. He was almost like a predator circling his prey, but instead of pouncing on her, he gave her little nudges and waited for her to take a step in his direction. Cristian went all out for her and I don't think there's anything he wouldn't have done for her. I loved it!
Although I liked Vanessa, there was a time where I doubted that they would fit together but it made it all the more sweeter to see them work against all odds.

She tried to fight her attraction to Cristian for a long time and I really wanted to smack her or push her aside to take him for myself when she couldn't see what a sweetheart of a man he was. I was really mad at her once for being so rude and unfair to him and thought that he deserved better but I get that she was just trying to keep herself from getting hurt. Luckily though, she came to her senses eventually.
'I love breaking other people's rules, but I'm not sure about breaking my own.'
Vanessa’s secret added a little extra to the story because my curiosity was piqued the moment it first came up in the first book and I really wanted to find out what she was hiding.

I really liked that there was a lot more to the story than what meets the eye because there was also a very sentimental moment that took my breath away and really surprised me so much that it brought tears to my eyes.

Of course, the sex scenes were unbelievably hot! The sexual tension was explosive and those two were insatiable which made for very steamy scenes! And who knew that washing hands and cutting pepper could be so hot?!

I was really happy that we got some more of M & M because those two are just so adorable and warm my heart every time they look at each other with hearts in their eyes!

Now I count the days until I get my hands on Luca's story because I know it will be as amazing as the other books especially because the epilogue in this book surprised the heck out of me. Bring it on L & L! I know your story will be so fun, I can hardly wait!

Book Review: Flirting with Fire by Piper Rayne

This was a slow burn romance that put a spell on me and was sweet like chocolate. Even though this was only the first book so far, I already know that this is going to be one of my favorite series by this author duo and everyone needs to meet the Bianco brothers as well as Maddie and her friends!
‘Whose idea was it to switch our paddles and bid on a hot bachelor for the other? Not mine, that’s for sure.’
Mauro Bianco has turned from heartthrob and self-centered jock at high school into a charming man saving lives for a living. If that wasn’t the perfect guy for a Hollywood romance I don’t know who was. He’s such a sweet and caring guy and had me swooning and awwing with everything he did and said like he was my own high school crush. He always knew what to say without being too cheesy for a man and I loved it!

I absolutely get why Maddie fell for him but she stood in her own way to happiness as she even as a grown woman still felt self-conscious and insecure although she didn’t look like her teenage self anymore.
She’s smart and so funny. She was also a dreamer and one for hearts, flowers and fairytales. But she had the typical woman syndrome to overanalyze and overthink everything.

The book was perfect from Prologue to Epilogue and I was melting with the overload of cuteness it contained. The romance took its time but the long build-up was so worth the wait!

Although there were some funny scenes, this book didn’t have as many hilarious moments as I was used to from some previous books and what I anticipated from the prequel, but it could definitely hold its own with a very cute story.

M & M were so cute together once she got more comfortable being around her high school crush and he stopped thinking of her as a people pleaser and quiet girl. I almost couldn’t handle all that sweetness from those two. Maddie was the matching lid to his pot – if that’s the right saying. =P

It all started with a bid on a hot bachelor, and in the end they’ve come a long way and found their perfect ending. I hope and I’m kinda sure of that we’re still going to see them in the coming books following the other Bianco brothers.

#1 False Memory
Release Date: November 13th, 2018

Blurb:

It all started with the bereavement flowers with my name on them.
Not the best way to wake up, right? I work in a flower shop. I know a funeral arrangement when I see one.

I know a killer when I see one, too. And one is standing in my hospital room right now, straight behind the man who saved my life.

I can’t tell anyone the truth, because that’s the fastest way to really die. So I do the next best thing. I “lose” my memory.

I fake my amnesia.

Pretending not to remember a brutal attempted murder has its perks. The killer is backing down, spending less time around me, loosening the noose.

The less I claim to recall, the more my rescuer, Duff, works to help me “remember.” I hate lying to him.
But he doesn’t understand that my memory is dangerous. To me. And to him.

Fooling everyone isn’t easy. It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done.
Except it’s starting to look like I’ve been fooling myself.

My review:

A perfect mix of intriguing characters, lots of heated emotions and strong characteristics. Asshole hero and unyielding heroine make for a sizzling story. A woman who stood strong to the arrogance and big ego of a man with hard edges but a soft core. It was like watching two competitors seizing each other up for flaws just to strike at the right moment. It was explosive!

There were a few ups and downs for me in the first half of the book which was why it took some time for me to warm up to the characters, especially to Laurella, but the second half was full on awesome, hot and captivating.

Laurella and Calum ran hot and cold while constantly butting heads and trying to get one up on the other. Both weren't willing to step down and give in even if it meant to go behind the other's back. Their boss wasn't happy with it as you can imagine as they needed to work as a team to be successful in the growth of the company.
‘”When someone who doesn’t even know me or the company I work for stands up at a board meeting and basically tells us all how wrong we’ve been running things for the past five years, forgive me if I don’t just bend over and take it up the ass.’”
Personally, some quarrelling was fun but I wasn't really into them being angry and mean to each other. I was very smitten though when they finally got along and their feelings turned into something positive. Suffice to say that I absolutely loved the second half of the book when the romance blossomed and their growing feelings were put to the test.

Laurella was a strong woman but had her fair share of ugly in life which is why she looked a lot stronger on the outside as to what she was really feeling inside.

Although one could say that Calum was cold-blooded and wicked, I actually found his character very refreshing. I also didn’t have the feeling of him being a big bad wolf but rather a softie in wolf skin. He had a warm heart and was as loving and caring as one would wish their partner to be. I think that he came across as harsh because he was only trying to protect himself from getting hurt. I'm sure that the loss of their parents was still hurting the Brook brothers even if they would deny it.

Give this story a go especially when you like hot-headed characters that have to work to find to each other, and even then need to learn how to juggle their feelings in the highs and lows of life.

The Story:
Calum was hotheaded and stubborn as hell especially when it came to his territory where he always had the last words to say and people following his orders. So, it was no wonder that he butted head with the spirited Italian woman who blew into his bubble like a hurricane and challenged him at every turn he took for granted until now. Laurella didn’t shy away from the cold stares Calum shot her way because she knew that the company needed her expertise to grow and she loved this new experience after having been so long in the same company.
For the success of Necron they both eventually had to find a way to get along. Did they get their act together in time or did it all blow up in their faces?
‘Something told him that getting rid of Laurella Ricci wasn’t going to be as easy as he’d first imagined. Still, understanding the enemy was the first step. Next step? Get creative.’
Thoughts:
I would have given this book a full star rating if the first half of it wasn’t such an up and down for me.
Was it wrong of me that I took Calum’s side in the beginning instead of hers?! I was rather pissed at Laurella how she treated him and went behind his back. Her cursing him made her very unattractive and I did not understand why she stooped so low. Regardless, I felt bad for what happened to her in the past. I grew to like how those two riled each other up and rooted for them eventually.
What bothered me was a certain scene with Indie. I’m sorry but no matter what Calum said to her gave her the right to react that way. Honestly, I get where he was coming from because of what she did. But that’s the story of book one so if you want to know what happened you have to read that one.
I just wanted to mention that I liked that the anger Calum felt toward Indie because of what happened in the first book was still present and not just swept under the table. I really liked this detail. But don’t worry, you don’t need to have read the first book to enjoy Calum’s story.

Anyway, the chemistry between Calum and Laurella was explosive to say the least. Work enemies that felt threatened by the other but at the same time were attracted to each other physically. Imagine the sexual tension there. For a brief time it felt like they were both playing childish games and I was rather annoyed by that, especially when they went and threw very angry and hurting words at each other. There was a time or two when it was all a bit too harsh for me but after they sorted everything out I fell head over heels in love with the characters. Their dynamic after they called a truce was electrifying because all their suppressed attraction finally broke out and that was when the story finally got juicier. They put all their energy into flirting with each other which was so fun to read about.
‘You’re attractive enough on the outside, I suppose, but so are dragon fruit, yet bit into one of those pretty little things, and they’re the biggest disappointment.’
I still feel spent after reading this book. The second half of it was just so perfect and I loved every bit of it. It could have gone on forever but I am also excited for Cole’s story because I have a soft spot for men in uniform.

I’ve known Garrett Hollis since before I can remember, and I’ve loved him just as long. I loved him while he loved someone else. I loved him when he had a baby with her. I loved him when she left him.

The greatest of love stories is that between a dad and his daughter. I should know. I’ve had a front row seat. First steps, first words, all the big moments.

Garrett was just a teenager when Mia was born. I’ve watched him braid his daughter’s hair, hold her hand crossing the street, seen her asleep on his chest. I’m the best friend, the one they can count on for everything from dance lessons to motherly advice, anything they need. I’m their go-to girl.

The best part of any love story is the happily ever after.

But what if the happily ever after doesn’t include you?

All my life, that’s how long I’ve loved him.

My dream was to cook my way to fame and fortune, not run myself ragged keeping my late parents’ quaint Savannah restaurant afloat. My sister is useless, I’m chronically short-staffed, and even Gertie, my antiquated oven, hates me.

Then in charges Oliver, like a Golden Knight. He’s hunky and charming and makes others feel at ease. He’s earnest and kind, optimistic and extroverted. My best friend. My sister’s ex. Picking up the slack like he never left all those years ago. Making my body shiver with the lightest touch, the slightest smile. It would be so easy to let him be my knight in shining armor. But I can’t let him, even though he makes Gertie purr like a kitten.

Oliver

I practically grew up waiting tables alongside KitKat. She’s a brilliant chef, but it’s clear she’s no manager. I’ve noticed other changes in her since her letters stopped coming to me in Iraq. There’s fire burning in her green eyes—and pain.

The kiss was meant to comfort. But it explodes into searing passion so white-hot, not even the tallest, iciest sweet tea can quench it. I shouldn’t try. She doesn’t want help, especially not mine. But a kiss like that is the beginning of a promise. A promise that won’t stop until I help her find her dream.

Release Blitz & Book Review: ‘Manik by Amo Jones

‘Manik
by Amo Jones
Genre: Dark Romance
Release Date: October 1st, 2018

Synopsis:

I’m Beatrice Kennedy, but everyone calls me Beat. I live a low-key life, fresh out of college and drifting from town to town until I find my home.

I love music, and how it stirs even the deepest and untouched parts of your soul. Depending on what you choose to listen to, would depend on what it touches. It’s the drug we all damper in, only different strains. My strain is Jazz. The smooth instrumental strums that take over me. The sound of cigar smoke, bourbon and an old dusty fedora hat. My strain wasn’t rap, and it sure wasn’t laced with some A-class shit like murky blue eyes casted down from the Lord and the Devil’s handcrafted smile. I knew who he was—the whole world did. One fateful night set off a chain of events, events that no one was coming back from. You can’t save people who don’t want to be saved. You can’t pull them up from the ocean when they’ve latched themselves to an anchor. Love was my anchor, destruction was the water that was drowning me, and the rope that was so tightly clamped around my ankles, was woven with the lyrics of Aeron Romanov-Reed, also known as, 'Manik. He steals hearts from all around the world, but one night, he stole something that wasn’t his to steal.
Me.

About the author:

Amo Jones is a small country girl totally winging this author thing (she's probably doing it all wrong). She likes cake, loves wine, and her religion is magic. She's a profound work-a-holic, but when she's not writing, you can find her chilling with her kids & partner at the nearest beach, with a cocktail in her hand.
New Zealand is not a state of Australia and rugby is the best sport ever played.

My review:

In true Amo Jones fashion was this an unputdownable and awesome story that nobody should miss out on, especially when you're looking for a crazy ride only this author can deliver.
‘Who am I?’
The blurb didn't give much away and as always I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into with this new book from Amo Jones. I only knew that I had to be open for everything and be ready once again for a twisted story that has me questioning so much and drive me crazy until I finally get all the answers. Well, I wasn't so far off because the characters sure as hell knew what it meant to be dark and dangerous, badass but sexy as hell. It's hard to review this book without giving much away but Manik was a great mix of Raze and Bishop. It was an unputdownable book although the story was slower at a few chapters especially in the first half of the book which I had to consider in my rating.
'It feels too much like I'm dancing one-on-one with karma, and that's a dance battle I will never win.'
It wasn't an instant love with me but with every little bit Aeron gave and showed me himself did I fall deeper. I am sure that he will have a lot of readers swooning and cursing at the same time but melt and break a lot of hearts in the process too.
'There's darkness inside of him that is hidden behind the secret he preserves and the cries of his victims.'
I liked that Beat was such a badass heroine although she sometimes seemed a bit unsure of herself and what to do and therefore acted overdramatic at times, but who could blame her with all that happened and with a kidnapper and stalker like Manik breathing down her neck. He was a walking contradiction and I wasn't surprised by all the shocking revelations I didn't see coming in this book.
'His features are shrouded in pain but shadowed by what one could only describe as evil.'
The author once again delivered a suspenseful and twisted story that had me captured until the end and I loved how she spun everything together into an intricate pattern and left no questions unanswered.
'He inhales the dying breath of his victims like it's a line of cocaine.'
This is a must-read for all the Amo Jones fans but also a perfect way to get to know this author's writing style if she's new to you. I recommend this book for all the lovers of dark romance and mafia stories that like to get hot and heavy with the characters in one way or another.
'This family is toxic.'
