Release Date: April 26th, 2018

Blurb:

The perfect man for me is a blood-sucking lawyer. #pfftwhatever

Been there.
Done that.
Burned the T-shirt.

I didn’t swear off all men after my divorce, but I sure as hell swore off anyone remotely like my ex. On the top of that list? Attorneys. Everyone knows they can’t be trusted.

Now that I’m back in Chicago, my focus is my daughter, my mom and me. I haven’t given up on finding my happily-ever-after, it’s just on hold—indefinitely.

Then I see Reed Warner again, and he weasels his way into every part of my life, not willing to take no for an answer.

In spite of my better judgment I can’t stop thinking about the way his designer suits fit his muscular frame, or the way his blue eyes seem to eat me up with every glance.

You know when you’re on a diet and even hummus seems irresistible? Reed is like the equivalent of chocolate éclair and my willpower is fading fast.

The problem? Not only is he a lawyer…

He was the best man at my wedding.

Excerpt:

My phone rings just as I step onto the train. “Hello?”
“Victoria.” Darcie barks my name like she’s the head nun at a Catholic high school and I’m showing cleavage.
“How did you get this number?”
“I have my connections,” she says, and I already know from her tone that she’s about to ruin my day.
“What’s up, Darcie?” I try to hide the irritation from my voice, but I’m not sure I’m entirely successful.
“I just found you a partner to help with the carnival event.”
I blow out a breath and find a seat in the back of the train. “I don’t need a partner.”
“Well, he would only help out if it meant that he could work with you.”
A million swear words set off like a round of fireworks in my head.
“You’re kidding me?”
She laughs. “I wish I was.” I detect a bite of jealousy in her tone. “If I was single…anyway, he requested you and we so rarely get fathers or father figures so in this case, I have to let him have what he wants. And for some reason, that’s you.”
I watch the city skyline getting closer out the window. “Who is he to Henry?” I ask.
She laughs and then I hear chatter behind her. I wish I was in front of her, so I could shake her shoulders and get her to focus on me.
“Oh, you’ll find out.”
“Henry’s mom’s boyfriend?” I ask.
“Nope. Ask for yourself. Gotta go. Oh, and I’m sending him your phone number right now.”
Click.
The line dies. Mother fucking hell. Am I trapped in some Mean Girls reunion movie?
I haven’t even tucked my phone back into my purse before it dings with a text. I’d ignore it if I wasn’t worried that it could be my mom needing me.
Unknown: Hey, it’s Reed. The stunning guy you just reacquainted yourself with twenty minutes ago. How about a nightcap tonight to start brainstorming ideas for the carnival?
I add his contact information into my phone, so I don’t mistakenly answer again.
Me: Don’t you have a son to watch at night?
Reed: Nope.
Me: I don’t think your girlfriend would appreciate your invite. We can talk details over a morning coffee and that’s it.
Reed: ???
Reed: Not even dinner?
I don’t respond.
Reed: Lunch? Even business associates have lunch together.
I shake my head and try to tamp down my temper.
Reed: Fine. But mornings are hard for me.
I’m being difficult for the sake of being difficult now. I can’t very well ask Hannah to come in late to plan some stupid carnival booth anyway.
Me: Saturday?
Reed: My place.
The three dots appear but I respond before he can.
Me: McDonald’s on Peterson. The kids can play, and we’ll talk. Noon.
Reed: You run a hard bargain and I make a lot of deals.
What the hell does that mean?
Reed: I take it that’s the end of our conversation?
I don’t reply because there’s nothing else to say.
Reed: Message received. Have a great day, Victoria.
I tuck my phone back into my purse with a giddy feeling inside. Damn it. I wish my stomach would get the message my brain is trying to send it.

My review:

This was such a sweet story about a divorced woman raising her daughter alone while working full time and going to school. She was a very strong and independent woman who could definitely stand her own. Though she was deeply hurt by her ex and her trust in men, especially lawyers, was basically non-existent. When she happened to run into an old friend of her ex, his best man at their wedding, she was torn between her attraction and the fact that he was also a lawyer, which was a big no-no for her. Victoria didn't want to get lost in a man again because this time her dreams would come first. But Reed was oh so tempting.

Reed really wore his feelings on his sleeve and I was absolutely smitten with him as he not only won Victoria’s heart but also mine. I loved his confidence and how considerate, understanding and sensible he was. Poor guy didn’t have it easy with Victoria because she definitely was a tough nut to crack for him. But who could blame her after what she'd been through?! Having your trust broken is nothing you can get over easily and you instinctively have trouble trusting in anyone else.

The story was only from Victoria's POV but I didn't really mind or even notice it at first because I got lots of Reed anyway.

The book felt somewhat different to all the previous Piper Rayne books. Not in a bad way obviously. It just had a different feel, more mature on a certain level and not as laden with hilarious scenes but still lots of funny moments in between plenty of sweet scenes. It’s hard to describe or maybe it's just me because it felt a bit more serious in a way, with her moving to be with her sick mum, being a single parent working and studying.

Hannah and Chelsea were great characters and I can't wait for their stories. They both have distinct personalities and I'm sure we will have lots of fun following their stories.

I liked Pete in the prequel Clean Slate. He wasn't a total Bastard but rather reasonable, so I was happy that I wasn't totally amiss about him. Although he hurt Victoria I believe that he’s still a good guy at heart. He definitely had good intentions at times and he obviously cared a lot about his daughter. If Reed wasn't my prince charming I totally would have wanted Pete back with Victoria, but I'm hopeful that he'll find his better half one day, which will be ME! =P He absolutely earned the half star of my review.

Book Review: Clean Slate by Piper Rayne

Piper Rayne’s prequels are awesome because they are always on point. They aren’t too long or too short, they never confuse me or leave me hanging but they always have me laughing out loud. I loved this one because it was a great start to a hopefully great new series. I can't wait to dive into Manic Monday.

Clean Slate was a perfect way to get to know the female main character of the coming book and to learn a bit about her background. Although we already kind of know her from the Dirty Truth Series as she's Jagger's Assistant. Having said that, I absolutely loved to have him in this little prequel because I really miss the guys from the previous books but I'm excited for everything new that's to come. I was also surprised about my liking of her ex although there’s a reason he’s just that. I am curious if we'll see more of him in Manic Monday and if my feelings for him will change.

This is definitely worth a try to dip your toe into the new series and a nice treat for Jagger fans!!

The Story:
Veronica leaves for Chicago to be a helping hand to her sick mum. Though first she has to tell her not-so-easy-to-handle boss that he has to look for a new assistant. Funny that this ranks higher in worried conversations than telling her ex that she's moving away with their daughter.

My review:

One thing is for sure, I liked Zeus a lot more than King. Zeus was lethal and a manly man whereas King was still somewhat a kid compared to his dad and MC brothers. There’s just no one more alpha than Zeus Garro.

I was really excited for this book because although I usually steer clear of age-gap stories, I don’t mind it as much when the guy’s older. Anyway, after Lessons in Corruption I knew that I had to read Zeus story because come on! This biker's the full package.
'A fallen angel. A monster, but a good one under all the scary.'
What can I say?! I get weak in the knees when it comes to men like Zeus Garro. He’s no bad boy but a monster that could kill you bare-handed. The dark ones are just more fascinating than any other guys. I don’t think I’ve ever read about a character similar to Zeus. He’s one of a kind. You definitely need to be open to stuff like all-alpha, demanding, fierce and protective men because if you don’t like a Christian Grey or any other dominant character, you will have a problem here with caveman Zeus Garro. But who knows, maybe he will just show you how good it is with a man like him =P
'Now I knew what deity I'd pray to and die trying to please. Zeus Garro.'
The Story:
Lou would be the typical girl everyone envies because she has the looks, brain and wealthy family most people only dream of. But there’s nothing perfect about her life. Lou’s parents don’t show her the love and care a daughter should receive but only parade her around when they need her to. And looks change especially when undergoing chemotherapy, because Lou has cancer. Wanting nothing more than to break out of her family’s pretended perfectness, Lou is drawn to the dark and dangerous Prez of The Fallen MC. Although he’s a lot older than her and the exact opposite of a saint, she knows that life is short and she goes for what she wants no matter if he thinks she’s too young and too good for him. She’s determined to show him that he’s it for her.
'Too bad I was the kind of teenage girl who dreamed of men who could murder with their bare hands, who swore like it was essential to the English language and believed in brotherhood more than the law.'
Thoughts:
I love Giana’s writing. She writes in detail and doesn’t just scratch on the surface but dives into deep waters without it being too much. Her characters are way more complex than what they first appear to be and I loved the complexity of Zeus, he was the epitome of bad *evil grin*. And seriously?! This woman can write scenes so scorching hot you better have a fire-extinguisher nearby. *fanning myself*
'I clenched my fists against the impulse to throw her over my shoulder and spear her on my cock right there against the wall in front of everyone, so they would know she was mine.'
I only wish it was more fast paced because the story sometimes felt a bit slow; and I wasn’t fond of the Silence-of-the-Lambs-vibe.

Apart from that, everything else about this story was intense. The men, the sex, the feelings, the brutality of MC life. It was so very dirty and very hot. I loved it in the end but it wasn’t an all-consuming love because I needed some time to warm up to it and wasn’t as captivated by the story as some other readers obviously were.
'With or without me, Loulou Lafayette was going over to the dark side. And I'd decided I'd be the welcoming committee.'

Synopsis:

Each day I prayed for my husband to love me again.

After seventeen years together, he walked away from me, and into the arms of another.

I didn’t know how to cope. I didn’t know my worth. I didn’t know how to exist without him by my side.

All I wanted was for him to come back to me.

Then, Jackson Emery appeared.

He was supposed to be a distraction for my mind. A summer fling. A confidence boost to my bruised heart.

We were perfect for one another, because we both knew we wouldn’t last. Jackson didn’t believe in commitment, and I no longer believed in love. He was too young for me, and I was too damaged for him.

Everything was fine, until one night my heart skipped a beat.

I didn’t expect him to make me laugh. To make me think. To make my sadness somewhat disappear.

When our time was up, my heart didn’t know how to walk away.

Each day I prayed for my husband to love me again, yet slowly my prayers began to shift toward the man who wasn’t right for me.

I prayed for one more smile, one more kiss, one more laugh, one more touch…

I prayed for him to be mine.

Even though I knew his heart wasn’t destined to love.

Book Review: I'll Be Waiting by A.M. Hargrove

It's no secret that I love the author's previous work and you can imagine how excited I was for this book especially since I love military books. While the story started out really good, it took quite a while for the characters to meet and that's when it started to get somewhat odd for me. I was never a fan of instant love but it's not impossible for me to like it only very rare. In this case though I just couldn't get into the story because of how the characters were all over each other from the moment they met. If you like that kind of thing, then go for it. It just wasn't for me and I feel bad for giving it a low rating just because it wasn't my taste.

I did like that it was all very honest, open and very upfront without secrecy or lots of self-consciousness from the characters, but it almost felt a bit too much and kind of clinical. I didn't feel the emotions despite all the stuff that happened which is a shame because there was a lot that could have had me in tears. Especially with the stuff Rusty went through. I'm still not quite sure if he had managed to work through the things he endured as a kid or if he was still working on it.

It was a bit weird how instantly obsessed Rusty was with Lee and his thoughts and plans after he'd only met her. Everything was moving so fast and was a little too much for my liking. It was all a bit too fairytale-like.

Maybe I went about it the wrong way because the story was obviously intended to be like that regarding the characters and how they acted. They knew it was ridiculous to feel this way so fast and how they rushed into things but I was missing the spark. And the story with her grandfather was sweet but again, I'm just not into stuff like that.

Yeah, sorry. It was an okay read with some good stuff and some things I wasn't fond of. But it's a matter of personal opinion and I still hope you give it a chance to see for yourself if you like it.

My Review:

From beginning to end, this book was nothing but perfection. I fell in love with the characters right from the start, although I loved Becket already when he was first introduced in He Loves Me...KNOT. Of course I had high expectations but count on RC Boldt to deliver another great story that put a smile on my face for days. Thank you!

This story’s one of a kind. I was swooning, laughing, crying out of joy and sorrow, but foremost, I fell in love with the beautiful story of two very different people who went through the process of learning, accepting and adapting to difficult situations that had yet been unknown to them. Becket was as open, caring, loving and honest as can be whereas Ivy was used to close herself off and guard her heart with oppressing her feelings in order to keep from getting hurt. How these characters formed each other and were better people together was awe-inspiring.

Ha! And there I thought it would be hard to deliver the next book after the awesome story of HLMK. But I was proven wrong. Becket’s a total sweetie, which might sound strange considering his physique, but his characteristics had me swooning all over him. He was just such a charmer and had me eating out of his hand.

He’d totally make me reconsider my views on marriage and kids because they’re similar to Ivy’s, so I really connected with her, but for a guy like Becket I’d throw all caution to the wind and be all in with him. =P

I wish I could have wrapped myself in this book like in a blanket because I found myself in a real dilemma as this was an unputdownable book but at the same time I didn’t want it to end. I savored every word and the significance of highlighting got absolutely lost here, because there wasn’t much that I didn't highlight. *HaHa* I really was at it again, highlighting the shit out of this book. What can I say?! I just loved it all.

I was head over heels in love with this story because Becket's made to win and he definitely won my heart. Will he win yours too?!
