Lessons From A One Night Stand
by Piper Rayne
Series: The Baileys #1
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: February 7th, 2019

Blurb:

If you find yourself having banged your new boss—the principal—in the back of your Jeep one drunken night, here’s a few takeaways based on my experience...

Lesson One: Always get her FULL name.

Lesson Two: Consider asking what she does for a living.

Lesson Three: Find out why she’s moved to town. Get details. Details are crucial.

Lesson Four: Don’t alter her bio in front of an auditorium of high school students unless you know she has a sense of humor for that sort of thing.

Lesson Five: If you ignore Lesson Four, apologize instead of flirt when you’re sent to the principal’s office.

Lesson Six: NEVER sleep with her again.

Lesson Seven: Pay attention to this one—it’s the most important of them all.

Don’t fall for your one-night stand.

Class dismissed.

My review:

A very sweet small town romance, and a great start into a fabulous new series from one of my favorite author-duos.

I came to love this wonderful story after a bumpy start. It wasn’t the typical funny rom-com that I was used to from Piper Rayne but rather a very charming story with a realistic feel about finding happiness, where the characters were very mature and searching for something more in life. Although I missed the typical Piper Rayne signature, I still loved how this story made me feel, and it was the first of their books where I was worried until the very end that it might not have the happy ending everyone wanted it to be. Weird of me to think that, right?! Though fear not, there were some funny moments, sexy times that steamed up my kindle and I absolutely loved the ending.
I don’t believe in kissing and telling, but I’ll tell you – this is the first and only principal I’ve ever given an orgasm to in the backseat of my Jeep.’
Fate brought Austin and Holly together, or should I say sex in his Jeep brought them as close as it gets?! HaHa! Anyway, I adored the Bailey family, their dynamic and all the great people of Lake Starlight. I loved the small town vibe, how everyone knew and greeted each other, and obviously all the new characters we got introduced to. There are a lot of great stories coming our way with the Bailey family and their many members, and I’m very excited for each of them.

Austin was a teacher and baseball Coach at the high school where Holly took the short-term position as Principal. They probably hadn't expected to see each other again after their sexy hot session in his Jeep. Well, to expect the unexpected was something Holly had to get used to very quickly because in a town as small as Lake Starlight word traveled fast. That’s also said for all the rumors that got around when they're seen together, because there’s a lot that can be said to be done behind drawn blinds.
That it was impossible to keep anything secret in this small town was to be expected but they tried it anyway. As this town was so close to one another like a family, it also acted that way when they didn’t agree with something or wanted something to happen. But Austin had dreams he wanted to fulfill and although he loved his home town and family, he’d sacrificed enough already to do anything else for their satisfaction, because now it was his turn.

These two underestimated each other from the very beginning. Their physical attraction was obvious as they couldn’t stop thinking about the other’s body parts, which meant that there was a lot of chemistry between the characters and the romance and feelings took a backseat until way later on. Austin and Holly knew from the beginning that there couldn’t be more between them for obvious and not so obvious reasons and their agreement had an expiration date. But nobody can control their feelings, right?! So when they both set out to find their missing pieces, did it make them happy when their hearts didn’t feel complete without the other?!
‘It was a hard lesson for me to learn in life, not to please people by constantly accepting apologies that hold no weight.’
As I mentioned above, I had to warm up to the story and its characters partly because of Austin’s thoughts in the beginning of the story. I wasn’t fond of his justifications of his sexual thoughts about Holly and also how Austin and Holly met again at school. He acted like a douche and she seemed uptight, which was something I couldn’t warm up to at the beginning. But it didn’t take long until I saw how good of a person he was, how much he sacrificed for others and how funny and fair Holly was.
