Release Blitz & Book Review: False Memory by Meli Raine

False Memory
by Meli Raine
Series: The False Series #1
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Release Date: November 13th, 2018

Blurb:

She's faking her amnesia to fool a very real killer.

It all started with the bereavement flowers with my name on them.

Not the best way to wake up, right? I work in a flower shop. I know a funeral arrangement when I see one.

I know a killer when I see one, too. And one is standing in my hospital room right now, straight behind the man who saved my life.

I can’t tell anyone the truth, because that’s the fastest way to really die. So I do the next best thing. I “lose” my memory.

I fake my amnesia.

Pretending not to remember a brutal attempted murder has its perks. The killer is backing down, spending less time around me, loosening the noose.

The less I claim to recall, the more my rescuer, Duff, works to help me “remember.” I hate lying to him.

But he doesn’t understand that my memory is dangerous. To me. And to him.

Fooling everyone isn’t easy. It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done.

Except it’s starting to look like I’ve been fooling myself.

In more ways than one.

My review:

I can’t even tell you how excited I was for this book! I devoured the Harmless and Shameless series and absolutely love this ongoing suspenseful story! After what happened at the end of Jane’s story I counted the days to have Lily’s book in my hands. I had high expectations because although this series can probably be read as a standalone, the storyline goes through all of those series but with a different main character in each of them. So now we have Lily’s story and I was looking forward to her talkative and fun personality. Sadly though, after what happened to her, she was the exact opposite (which was understandable but I still needed to get used to it).
‘That’s what makes evil people so dangerous. They act just like us. Until they don’t.’
As was known from previous series, Lily was shot and now lying in the hospital. She knew who tried to kill her but couldn’t trust anyone and feared for her life. So she decided to keep her secret to herself, but this still didn’t guarantee her safety. Duff was one of her security details, whom we’ve also met in the previous series. I liked Duff in the Shameless Series but he didn’t show much of himself in this book so I am looking forward to finding out more about him.
‘Playing dumb is the only way to win this game.
Playing dumb is the only way to stay alive.’
The pace of this story was very slow and I am not sure how I would have liked it if I hadn’t read the other books and wouldn’t have known the characters already. Lily’s thoughts and thought process was very strange at times even though I understood where it was coming from. But she was so young and a lively spirit before she was shot that I couldn’t connect her way of thinking with her character from Jane’s story.
‘Have you ever had a secret? The kind that burns bright inside you, blazing like a star, held back inside the confines of your skin?’
Well, Lily was in the hospital for a while and there's only so much one can do with a story when the main character was bound to the hospital bed. Obviously, her thoughts were the only thing that was available to use for those chapters, but it got a bit drawn out after a while. Everything considered it was very well written though especially because I knew that this couldn't have been rushed along because it would’ve been unreal to have her healed in a day. So I think it's well thought through but might be a little hard to start from for someone who’s new to the big picture of this story that goes on for a while now, to enjoy it as much as others do that know the characters already a lot better. But who knows, maybe it’s even easier without any knowledge of what happened before because Lily doesn’t know most of it either.
‘People like him don’t back off and they never back down. Ever. Not until they’re satisfied.’
There wasn’t as much suspense as I hoped for but I am sure there’s a lot to come with the next books and I can't wait for more. Especially because – like in the other series – the ending was thrilling and made up for the missing action from the rest of the book.

Ps.: It was a good start into this series but compared to the other ones this was just not as good so I couldn’t give a higher rating. I am sure though that the best is yet to come.
