Una
To many, I am little more than a myth. The Kiss of Death, a hired killer, revered by the some of the greatest criminal organisations in the world. Trained by the bratva themselves, without conscience, without mercy, the perfect soldier. I’ll kill anyone… for a price. Death doesn’t discriminate, she sells to the highest bidder, but even I have a weakness.

Nero
I want one thing - power. But power is merely a game of strategy. The pieces are on the chess board. Death is my queen, and also my pawn. She’ll paint this city red in exchange for the one thing she wants. Now all I have to do is watch it all play out. She’s nothing more than a weapon, and yet, I find myself wanting to dance with death, to possess her. And I always get what I want.

A game of power. A risk that could cost her everything. An obsession that would see the world burn at their feet. A bloodied king. A broken queen. Kill me or kiss me?

My review:

This was my first read from this author even though I have a few of her books on my tbr-list but I've never gotten 'round to reading one until now. I am glad I finally started reading her books because she got me hooked on this series. Her writing captured me and this story was full of suspense that kept me turning the pages. I loved this book and definitely want more!

The Story:
Una was trained to kill and turned into a deadly weapon, The Kiss of Death. She gets hired to kill though that comes with a price. She is badass and men tend to underestimate her because appearances are deceiving and as a woman you are usually not considered a threat for mafia bosses or any kind of gangsters. But even the strongest have a weakness, and so does this assassin.

All Nero Verdi wants is power and he has a plan to gain more. For his plan he needs Una and he always gets what he wants so it's just a matter of the right leverage over her until she gets him to his goal. No matter the losses on his way to the top.
'He feeds into every element of my nature, stoking the flames of my violence until it's an inferno. We're fire and gasoline the perfect combination, the perfect disaster.'
Thoughts:
To be honest I wasn't a big fan of Nero. He was nothing close to any character I've read so far. He wasn't just bad or evil, he fitted no description because as soon as I thought I'd figured him out he suddenly changed direction and kept me spinning around and wondering what actually just happened.

I didn't have a clue what Nero was going for in this book and this had me confused the whole time. He hired Una for a job and I didn't understand his motivations behind his conditions that came with this job. It also seemed like forever until she finished her job even though she didn't do it the way I thought she would and it was a tad bit dragging at some point. I was also wondering why those evil guys relied on a woman to kill their enemies?! I guess I'm just not used to reading about badass women.
'I don't know how he can make me want to fuck him and slit his throat all in the same breath.'
Anyway I enjoyed the story a lot which was really brutal at some points. Typical mafia probably but I'm just not used to this because I rarely read mafia books. I can't wait to read more about Una and what will happen next especially because this book ends in a huge cliffhanger.
'Now, Irish is English essentially, until two Irish people talk to each other and then it's just noise.'
